The Benefits of Body Building Programs

Body building programs have been around for ages as evident in several Ancient Greek and Roman art sculptures.

Weight training was practiced in the early days since a built body meant beauty, perfection, strength, health, and pride.

It served as a celebration of the human body and propagation of the aesthetic appreciation of an individual’s anatomy while at the same time, an athletic pursuit to gain power and vigor. These reasons hold true up to the present where we have weight training as an event in the Olympics and as a competition among professional body builders held by the International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB).

The main rationale behind the presence of body building programs is the ability of an individual to develop muscle mass. Of course the effort required into “getting ripped” differs from person to person depending on their body type and genetics. But regardless, increase in muscle mass is a result of stress being put onto the muscle. Whenever a person works out, he actually creates tiny rips or tears in the muscle. Do not fret though as it isn’t any major or serious muscle injury. These rips and tears are known as micro trauma. During the recovery process, the body tends to rebuild the muscle tissue and add in a bit more to prevent the trauma from happening again. This rebuilding process gives a person muscle growth. There is no need for worry though since body building and weight training are completely safe as long as it isn’t overdone. What’s more is that it has plenty of benefits.

For the most obvious of advantages, people engaged in body building programs are able to sculpt, shape, and tone their bodies. The exercises required lower the chances and prevent illnesses from occurring and help maintain a healthier lifestyle. Weight is always sustained and kept in check. Muscle strength is enhanced and allows for the efficient performance of joints and muscles. This improves a person’s overall functionality in terms of flexibility, balance, injury prevention, and stamina which may very well extend into his or her years of old age. And it affects cholesterol levels too on the premise that the more active a person is, the lower their cholesterol levels will be.

Not only improve muscle strength but increase bone density as well by using the same principle of muscle micro trauma. The more stress the bone receives, the denser it becomes. Whenever people work out, lots of tiny bone matter crack as movement happens. The body produces more bone cells to repair and strengthen the bone. The same goes with broken or fractured bones; it becomes thicker and more solid. Increased bone density lowers a person’s chances of having osteoporosis or any other bone-related inconveniences as he or she grows older. The exercises brought by body building programs also lifts a person’s overall wellbeing - improving sleeping patterns and greatly boosting the immune system. Individuals tend to become more energetic, resistant to diseases, and exude a fit and healthy lifestyle that would be the envy of everyone else.

Aside from all the physical benefits, individuals involved in body building programs experience a mind-body fusion. Being physically fit boosts a person’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and high levels of satisfaction. Some believe that it can even remedy depression. Being able to accomplish and undergo such feats also gives a person a sense of achievement especially when a proper exercise ethic is adapted. Individuals develop greater appreciation and admiration for their bodies. No wonder body builders find this physical addictive. Everything is for the greater good as long as the body is not overworked and pushed beyond fatigue.
