Bodybuilding programs are quite popular these days. Training with weights is incorporated in a lot of exercise programs. In addition, it is a normal part of the training regimen of athletes.

It is hard to look for a coach or personal trainer who does not believe in using weights in developing strength, agility and stamina. Hence, literally millions of people around the world are now engaged in a body building program in one way or another. But with the increased number of people participating in such come the increase in injuries. If you are just starting out on a body building program, there are steps that you should take to save yourself from being injured.

See Your Doctor First

No matter which one among the different bodybuilding programs you engage in, you should never start with one unless you have the permission of your doctor. He will do a diagnosis on you based on your health history and medical checkup results. You should be healthy enough and without any dangerous underlying conditions to lift weights. A consultation with a doctor is particular important if you are:

• Over forty years of age
• Leading a sedentary lifestyle
• Overweight or obese
• Diagnosed with diabetes, heart ailment and other chronic conditions.

Start Slowly

Any exercise should be moderate at the start, gradually building up in duration and intensity as you progress. There should be sufficient warming up and warming down sessions before and after the activity. Starting slow is particularly advisable for beginners in bodybuilding programs since they are more prone to injuries. There should be no more than three sessions per week if you are a beginner in bodybuilding programs. A rest period of one to two minutes is also necessary in between sets. More weights should be added as you develop your strength as well as the repetitions per set.

Always Consider the Basics of a Bodybuilding Program

If you are a beginner on a body building program, it is very enticing to try the routines which professional weightlifters do. However, this is actually dangerous for you. You should always stick with the basic instructions your personal trainer gave you. This is why a set of barbells and a bench are always the basic equipments that are used in weight training. These equipments will teach you to perform the proper techniques with the proper form that is necessary to develop the muscles. No matter how often you go to the gym or how many repetitions you make, you will not make good progress if you do not follow the basic form and technique for each exercise.

Bodybuilding programs work well if coupled with proper nutrition. Without a well balanced diet, you will not be able to achieve the kind of body you want. In fact, unhealthy eating habits can make you fatigued and sick. Lifting weights put too much stress and demand on the body. If you are not going to get the proper nutrition, your body will not be able to recuperate properly after a workout.
