Should women train chest after BA?

This seems to be a common Q/point of confusion. I spoke/asked a number of fitness/figure/bikini competitors as well as my friend who is a plastic surgeon who does nothing but high end BA work. Some comments from various people on the issue:

"I still do chest work and so do most of the women I know (competitors and just regular women who work out). Even my doctor said it would be ok once everything has healed up. Once the pocket forms (the space they use to put the implant in if you go UNDER the muscle), and there are no complications you should be fine to do exactly what you've done prior to BA. The training isn't what causes migration, it's capsular contracture that causes that, and who develops it as well as how they develop it is just a random crap shoot."

"Sure and same thing goes if you go over the muscle. Many women opt for that if they don't want to compromise mobility with the chest muscles, although most doctors now are suggesting under the muscle because it looks more natural. Additionally, there is a higher risk of CC with BA done over the muscle. But again, since who develops CC can't be predicted one cannot say that exercise would be attributed or a cause."

"I have found that most the women I speak with who go UNDER the muscle do not lift chest after a BA, and if they do it's only lightly...not to grow really. (That's what I do). Some docs do say that training really heavy can change the pocket that the implant is in, thus allowing them to migrate. Suit makers have said this too, about the girls that come to them time and time again looking for help bringing the boobs back toward the center.

I think it's common practice to to train chest after a BA. Mostly for figure and bikini that developed chest isn't necessary so many girls opt not to. Fitness/FBB seems to be diff and that's where you will see more girls go over the muscle.

I guess of all the girls I've talked to about it - it seems 50/50 whether or not they continue to train..."

"Even though I had little breast tissue and don't carry a lot of weight upstairs (meaning the surgeon thought unders would look more natural), I explained what type of training I do and that I was okay with a little visible rippling as long as my pectoral muscles wouldn't be affected. We did 400 cc overs, and they are totally natural looking (except for when I am contest lean, but that's expected). I do every kind of chest training imaginable, including heavy benching, and have done so since two weeks post surgery. I couldn't wait to start doing pushups again!"

"...if you have quite a bit of growth with the muscles and the pocket etc. Yeah I think if you plan to go really heavy etc with training, overs are a better option
"

So, there's a bunch of good info above, and some of how you approach it will depend on over/under, whether you're figure/fitness/bikini bber, and other factors.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the idea of no chest work after a BA, it's simply the opposite of why we work out in the first place, could lead to injuries via muscle imbalances, poor posture, and other issues.

Re: Should women train chest after BA?

Great timing! My wife's going under the knife for a lift on the 19th of January, then 3 months later she's getting the floatation devices installed. Doing it in two stages cuz of all the weight she lost and the extra skin that remained.

She wants to go Double D, which I think is 400+ CC (I'm not really sure, she's done more reading on the topic, I just look at the pics! > )
