Hi,

Ok this is going to sound weird .........I started working out with weights about 2 months ago, it was all going great until last week after my routine workout I noticed a sharp pain in my belly button area. Itís just when I apply pressure to the belly button that I get this sharp pain......:(

I feel better now after resting for a week but it still bothers me that I may get the pain again should I go back to the gym.......Does anyone know what could be the reason for the pain ?.

A friend at the gym thinks that it could be the "extra" sets on squatting that I tried out the last time which could have over-trained me in some way.

The cause of such a thing is impossible to diagnose on the forum. Could be 1000 things from a simple muscle pull to a hernia and so on. If it does not go away, then a trip to the doctor is warrented.

Sounds like a rectus abdominus strain or umbilical hernia. Could be anything; as Will said, medical diagnosis over the internet is less than optimal. See a physician before you lift again. If it is a hernia, lifting again could widen the hernia, push more sac contents into it, or strangulate it.
