Which medical websites are reliable please?

At the moment I use WebMD and pdrhealth but would like others.

Here's a few. Some of these require subscriptions; if you're near a university library that has a medical school you may be in luck:

UpToDate.com - probably the best, requires subscription. This is the one site I would recommend subscribing to if you had to pick one.

MDConsult.com - also outstanding, has full text online journals and many textbooks as well as other information, requires subscription.

eMedicine.com - FREE and outstanding.

PubMed - www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi - FREE but abstracts only.

MedLine - medline.cos.com - Requires subscription, full text online journals of most medical journals dating back 40+ years.

Physician and Sportsmedicine online - physsportsmed.com - some free, good info.

Erowid.org - a good, FREE toxicology website. Not journals, and appears "unofficial," but toxicologists actually refer to it quite a bit to figure out what the hell people are doing to try to hurt themselves these days. The tox fellowship at UVa was one of the best in the country and the fellows were on that website constantly.

Another good one is harrisonsonline. It a subscription site - the online version of the best internal medicine textbook. Some people prefer online vs. hardcopy, etc.

Some great sites there erp7e.

The Berkeley toxicology department actually uses Erowid.org too. I will add my two cents although most of the sites I visit for info are subscription based from the university.

http://ods.od.nih.gov/index.aspx This is the office of dietary supplements. Give okay, although very conservative information. Very good source of what is going on in the news though. Free site too.

http://scholar.google.com/ Google is just awesome! I can often find overseas research here that some of our partners are doing that I can't find on pubmed(ie in france). You have to be careful too though since it will give you some obscure sites at times.

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/index.html Awhile back I tried out all of the major universities health letters and Harvard I feel along with UC Berkeley (I'm biased on the berkeley one since I help with it) are the two that are any good. I think that probably the best thing about being a member is the ability to access their online database and archives. Lots of cool information.

Thanks for the links Torelli. Great stuff.

I get a couple of the Harvard newsletters too and enjoy them. I'll look into getting the Berkeley one too in the future. Thanks again.
