Hmm, Good idea for a thread Mickey. Never thought of that, I was going to merge this with the main 'Introduce Yourself' thread but I think this can stand on it's own.

Good Idea

Well I'm still on the westside of Cleveland and I'm still looking for a workout partner. I am wondering is it the same 10 people posting all the ads and replies? Come on, someone has to be out there! All the BB's can't be in California, Texas and East Coast? Or are they????????????

Hey Mickey,

I've sometimes found finding a workout partner online a bit difficult as there are many people from all over and that there are many gyms. However, I have found going to the gym regularly, there are also other committed people to fitness. This may take a couple months depending on how big your gym is, the regularity you go, etc. I go to 2-3 different gyms, and I already recognize the people that go there regularly, what they do, and have struck up quite a few friendships. For me, I wasn't looking for a workout partner, but if I was, I probably could've asked and gotten one.

Make yourself friendly, keep a watch out for other people whom you see training the way you like. Be very observant. The worse that someone can say is no...and the best thing is that you get a good workout partner that is similar to your schedule.

Hi Molly, I typed this twice, I hope two messages don't mysteriously appear. Thank you for your advice and observations. Unfortunately, I don't belong to a gym. I work-out at home. Over the years I have invested a considerable amount of money in weights and equipment and refuse to join a gym. Years ago I joined a gym, paid my year's membership in advance, went one month and the gym declared bancruptcy. That did it for me! I started buying equipment shortly thereafter. So even though it would be 'free' for someone to workout at my home with me. That isn't enough of an incentive apparently for 99+% of the people. I, also, like the fact that in the winter I don't have to worry about going to the gym. And yes, I have thought about reconsidering my "NO GYM" policy but in all honesty I hate to spend even more money to join a gym when I have pretty much all the same equipment they do at home and can use it anytime I feel like it without stepping out the door.

Hi Mickey,

I hadn't even thought about a no gym membership. I guess what I said doesn't apply to you. But, it would if you changed your mind. I would have to agree with you regarding all the money you spent that you would want to workout at home. For me, personally, going to the gym and seeing other people workout helps further motivate me or helps me workout harder. Plus, I just need the socialization.

I wish you the best in finding a workout partner in your area.

I live in Elk Grove California and work out there durring the weekends, usually with my wife. During week days I work out mid-day in Downtown Sactramento at California Fitness.

I've met a few folks at California Fitness. One tip to others who are looking for a W/O partner...lose the iPod earphones. Those who workout with earphones seem to be in their own world, and have very little "situational awareness" of others around them. I think that earphones project "don't bother talkihng because I'm not listening."

Anyway...that's my take.

I live in Endicott NY. I've run across posts from peeps in the Binghamton area. Lemme know if you need a good, consistent partner. I'll either be joining Rexer's or Shamrock most likely, but if you happen to be a member of a different gym I'll reconsider the gym I join based on the cost, gym times of operation and equipment available.
